Flower spotlight: chrysanthemums

Chrysanthemums, commonly called mums, are the queen of fall flowers, and they come in many varieties and colors.

Mums can be traced back to the 15th century B.C. in China. They made their way to Japan in the 8th century A.D., where the emperor adopted a single chrysanthemum as the crest and official seal. It’s still a highly revered flower throughout Asia today.

Spotlight on All Paws Rescue

October is Adopt a Shelter Pet Month, and we want to take a moment to talk about one of our favorite rescue organizations: All Paws Rescue. It’s no secret to any of our regular customers or friends that we love animals at Lilygrass! Alicia brings her rescued dogs to the store every day and has rescue cats at home.  Also, she has been fostering kittens, cats and a few dogs - (a few dogs) because she foster-failed on the last one :) for All Paws Rescue since November 2016, and she loves working with them.

Fall is here! Celebrate with these fall floral bouquets

It’s officially fall! Time to break out the sweaters, cozy up next to a fire with some marshmallows, enjoy some apple cider, and celebrate all things fall. And that includes fall floral arrangements! Oranges, browns, yellows, reds, and deep purples add such warmth and beauty to any space. It’s a great way to bring the natural beauty of the outdoors this time of year inside to enjoy all day.

Try one of these great fall floral arrangements to brighten your home, office or send one to a friend to brighten their day.

Caring for indoor potted plants

Okay, we have a confession to make. Lilygrass's owner, Alicia, likes plants of all kinds, but she kills plants a lot. She loves them too much (over-waters) then she says "oh no" and doesn't water them to let them dry out (under waters).  She can't find the happy water medium zone. So, she is ban from watering plants in the store.  Now, that is funny!
