Back to school

Hello, Lilygrass fans!

Wow! Is it August already? We hope you had a fulfilling and whimsical few months, and we wish you well as your sweet little ones head back to the classroom. In honor of the dwindling summer days, we’d like to take a moment and dedicate this blog post to those fearless adult souls who accept our children back into the classroom soon – the teachers.

Teaching is a demanding and tiring job, and it is also one of the most important ones. The recent movement toward standardized testing and the ever-evolving door of state-mandated standards has torn down educator morale and oftentimes leaves a rift between parents and teachers. So what better way to show your child’s teacher that you support him/her than by showing up with some beautiful flowers? We could all use a nice gesture when we start something new, and teachers do just that, every year. So, at the beginning of this new school year, why not stop by Lilygrass on the way to Meet the Teacher night or Open House? We have just what you need!

These adorable ornaments are a welcome tribute to those hard-working educators. They can easily hang them as a daily reminder that parents do support them.

A beautiful, compact arrangement of flowers helps freshen any room, especially a classroom.  A short cylinder vase could sit on the corner of any desk without being overpowering. Plus, I’m sure the flowers could even be tied into a Science lesson or experiment! Your child’s teacher will be floored from the thoughtfulness!

But don’t forget about the support staff who stand behind those teachers, too! Principals, lunch ladies, bus drivers, custodians, counselors, and secretaries would also appreciate such a thoughtful gesture. I would argue that some of those jobs are even harder than a teacher’s!  (Can you imagine cleaning a middle school boys restroom…?) There sure are many people who work hard for our children, but don’t be stressed! There is no obligation to give each and every one of those people a stunning bouquet in August. Maybe start with one now, and pepper a few more in throughout the year. A loving gift always lifts weary spirits.

Some of the most popular gifts for teachers include yellow flowers, because what’s more cheerful? Bud vases hold one to three flowers, and add that extra touch of sophistication to any desk. Yellow roses, gerbera daisies, carnations, or chrysanthemums would be perfect for a delicate bud vase.

There are also small desk plants that are already blooming or one that is still green with the potential to bloom soon! Dish gardens are low profile and unique, because they last longer than traditional bouquets.

Another Lilygrass favorite is a snack basket. They are full of scrumptious treats like crackers and fruit. You could also request some of the teacher’s favorite candy.

Finally, we also offer balloon bouquets, and they are very festive. Balloons have the power to turn any occasion into a celebration, and going back to school is a sort of celebration (for parents, mostly)! The weight at the bottom of the balloons could even be some candy. What a treat!

Stand out amongst the throng of parents who launch email complaints and Facebook gripes with a Lilygrass back-to-school gift. Build that positive relationship and watch your teacher’s attitude (and your child’s success) flourish!
